A downloadable game for Windows

Download NowName your own price

A game, which started as remake of the C64 game Crillion. Up to date graphics and sounds make this game an experience on your PC today.

A ball jumps up and down and can be moved to the left and right. Every level has to be cleaned of all color blocks. This works only if the color of the ball and the block match though. Skill and brain power are needed to solve all 200 levels.

If you finished those, you can still find more sets in the online level database ("Levelbase").

And should you be able to finish all of them you can always start up the editor to build your own contraptions.

This version is built upon DirectX 8 and should therefore run on pretty much everything.

Also available in the Windows store (link for now: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P3NFTHWX0W3)

Updated to 2.7b: Allow more than three score entries per set. After loosing all lives the score is reset as well.

I found some more bugs:

- If you use "restart level" at 1 life, it resets lives to 3, keeps your score, and doesn't give a game over.
- It's possible to press escape and restart level while the level's text is still appearing, causing an overlap effect (the text appearing multiple times at once)

Woah, how did that escape me all those years?? Will fix later today, thanks!

you're welcome <3

Sorry for thet extremly late reply. I’ve updated the game. The score display is now unlimited (it scrolls after a while), also score is reset after loosing all lives.

awesome, thank you ❤️

as of newest version, choosing "restart level" on last life now results in this (maybe it would also make sense to rename "restart level" to "abort ball" or something)

unfortunately it seems like something weird happened to the controls in the new version: suddenly the only arrow key that works is the down arrow. And it moves the ball up and right (diagonally) if the ball was already moving up, or down and right if it was moving down

I don't know how it wound up like this, but... (did you perhaps mess with the default settings and forget to change them back?)

Ouch! Looks like the input control count got changed. The last update was years back. And I didn’t run into that issue locally. If you wouldn’t mind, could you re-map to the intended values?

Really sorry about that, I don’t have a reset control mapping function.

It’s supposed to look like this (german layout) image.png

yeah thanks I remapped it :)

Hell yeah it's time to break the bastard!

also possibly a bug: I was awarded all 3 of the achievements for master 5/10/20 user sets even though I only played one of them! (and I think I was given them even before that if I'm not mistaken)

Oh, that’s definitely a bug. I’ll look into it, thanks!

yw :)

Fixed that achievement bug (I was copying the achievement settings from the last profile to a newly created one, facepalm). Also reset the score to zero when keeping playing after all lives are gone.

New setup is up, thanks!

The highscore per stage is a bit more involved, currently I’m only storing per set. That would include having to remember delta scores during playing (only count points from that level), and taking care that the order of levels is adapted. for. I’m also afraid that you’re basically getting the same score for every stage when it’s completed but the bonus points.

cool, thanks! :)

I definitely want to say, this definitely reminds me of the days when people were civilized. I don't see anything offense, mean spirited, or etc written in the game, not even by the random users. Yet it's like this despite not having any forced censorship like word filters, DRM, etc. It's a place where people are simply good people, operating with human decency and good faith. We need more of this in the world. <3

Question:

I downloaded every single set from the internet, and can confirm they all show up in the game. But the "sets" folder has only about 20 files in it named after some of them. What is the location of the rest of them / how does this work? I want to make sure I don't lose any of them (and would prefer to keep them portable)

I tried to behave properly with the access rights. “In built” sets are properly installed with the game (Program Files) where there’s no write access when running). User sets (custom made or downloaded) are stored in %AppData%\Roaming\GR Games\HitBlock Deluxe.

I haven’t tried it but manually copying the sets in the game’s sets folder ought to be enough for them to show up.

thank you for giving me the location of those. The location of my installation isn't program files, though.

But it appears I was mistaken, when I said that some of the user sets were included in game folder/sets. I saw one of the files ("4 kids") had a similar name to some of the user sets. So I originally thought some of them were in there but not all. But now it makes more sense - *all* the user sets are in appdata :)

Oh.. this was created in 2003?!
I guess I can't be too nitpicky then and probably can't expect any changes/updates either :)

Also I noticed another thing - the top 3 scores on each level - shouldn't these be the records for that specific level rather than the all time scores?

Wouldn't hurt to have separate scoreboards for different level sets too (and maybe have a separate screen for scrolling through the different lists if there's more than 3 - or at least click a button on the menu to force them to scroll or something)

Interesting idea, it was a while ago since I last looked at this. I have to check whether all the score details are still available.

I like the named highscores feature too but I have one suggestion - after losing all lives and clicking "resume game" to start over with 3 lives at same level, set score to zero to avoid cloned scores?

I love this! It reminds me of the game "Diamonds" that was on an arcade game CD sold in Staples - I forget the name of it but I know it also included a Pac-Man clone named "Mac-Man"

It’s actually a clone/remake of the C64 game Crillion (1998). I never found out which one of these (Crillion or Diamonds) came first. By some stages it’s obvious one of them cloned the other.
